Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, is a city with a huge culinary scene. While the city is known for its traditional South Indian cuisine, most of them are also accidentally vegan. There is also a growing number of vegan cafes and restaurants in Chennai. These eateries offer a variety of plant-based dishes, from traditional Indian fare to international favorites.

We want to thank Linesh Shah and the bother sister duo Aditi and Akshat Jain for helping us compile this extensive list. Linesh, an IT professional grew up in South India and currently lives in Virginia USA. Aditi, a designer and Akshat, a successful businessman live in Chennai and are vegan for 6+ years.

The Viridian Plate (Vegan)

Regardless of your preferred cuisine, The Viridian Plate offers an appealing vegan menu that will satisfy a variety of palates. Their menu has something for everyone, whether you’re craving Italian treats like spaghetti salad or Indian specialties like tofu corn tikka. Don’t pass up their delicious soups, tofu, and biryani. Treat yourself to their alluring chocolate mousse. A variety of tasty and creative plant-based foods may be found on the menu. For a distinctive experience, choose choices like Tofu, Vegan Cheese Balls, and Broccoli Tater Tots. Along with wonderful food, the restaurant has a fun ambiance with board games and novels for guests to enjoy while they eat.

Lyfe by Soul Garden Bistro (Vegan Options)

The Lyfe by Soul Garden Bistro is the perfect place for vegans to explore. The menu features a wide range of delicious vegan options, such as pasta arrabiata, zucchini fries, and BBQ tofu. Their unusual black goth burger, also known as the Madras Burger, is a must-try and includes the standout ingredient activated charcoal made from coconut shells. The branches for the Nungambakkam & Besantnagar have vegan options which provide an array of the diverse, flavorful dishes with fresh and quality ingredients.

Eko-lyfe (Vegan)

It is a newly opened all vegan restaurant, they have extended their section for the vegan products. It is an initiative which focuses on the zero waste generation. One of their most famous dishes is their mouth-watering Gochujang spiced Vegan Sushi. Made with plant-based alternatives, while offering a compassionate and guilt-free dining experience. A visit to Eko-lyfe promises to delight your taste buds and showcase the incredible possibilities of vegan cuisine. Eko-lyfe also gives you an option to make your own salad bowl!

Amazing restaurant Pumpkin Tales offers vegan options and wows with stunning design. Three women who favor organic food and wish to raise awareness about veganism took the initiative. You must try some of their incredible meals if you intend to go there, such as their Oodles of Noodles, which now offers wacky options like Saffron Pasta, Burmese shan noodles, Know Suey served with wheat noodles, and more. Their burger bowl is also something which is quite famous for its unique offering of burger without any bun! Yes, this dish does a fantastic job of filling you with crisp vegetables and a cheesy aftertaste even though it lacks the flavor punch of a burger due to its ingredients of avocado, cheddar, and tahini sauce as well as a veggie patty.

They have amazing vegan options in fast food and have renovated the ambience for a more decent experience for the vegans. Their Vegan tofu masala pizza is an absolute smacker  to taste buds! Their Vegan Biryani and Vegan butter Naan with a Tofu gravy all of which tasted even more scrumptious and amazing.  BVeg Cafe literally gives all their attention and has a great personal touch. Definitely one of the cutest, and aesthetically appealing restaurants in the city.
